About The Artist

Photographer Profile of Doug Adams
Cape Cod photographer Doug Adams’ powerfully evocative work is shaped by his love of cultures, history, people, and light. Doug’s award-winning photographic limited-edition prints have been exhibited in galleries and private collections internationally. His work represents unique and compelling views of the world and beautifully covers the people, cultures, colors, landscapes, and textures of over fifty countries. Doug loves the photographic image's lasting power and indomitable spirit, and unique ability to communicate ideas, captivate viewers, and express artistic intention. He is motivated and driven by his desire to create compelling, creative images using natural, available light and is far less interested in the technical aspects of the art form or the camera. In fact, he has never owned or used a flash or artificial light source in his work. His most inspiring and important photographic experiences involve him emotionally and physically. While he is fully aware of the technical requirements, he's driven by the human spirit, his connection to people, and the artistic nature of the art form.

Doug's work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions at the Copley Society of Art in Boston, where he serves on the Board of Governors. He was previously represented by the Mark Gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has exhibited at the Robert Klein Gallery in Boston. He is currently collaborating on exhibitions with the Monat Gallery in Madrid, Spain, and the ARTBOXY platform in Switzerland. He was recently awarded second place in a national, juried photography competition for his portrait of a tribal woman from the remote Omo Valley in Ethiopia. Doug will also be exhibiting at the Carousel du Louvre in Paris in October 2024 and at the Florence (Italy) Biennial in October 2025.

Doug’s professional life as an international management consultant took him to over thirty countries and locations as diverse and varied as most of the major cities in Europe, Russia, and a dozen Asian countries,  including Japan, as well as South America. From these locations, his photographic interests took him to more remote locations, including Bhutan, the Yellow Mountains of China, the Australian Outback, and remote locations in India, Laos, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bali, Borneo, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. Additionally, Doug worked with clients in Sri Lanka and photographed throughout this beautiful South Asian island country for over twenty-five years.

Doug’s interest in photography began in the early 1970s when he was working for the mayor of New York City and became fascinated with the multicultural street life of the city neighborhoods and took up photography as a way to record and capture his experiences. This interest led him to take introductory photography classes at the New School in Manhattan, and through this experience, he began seriously studying photography. He has taken Master Classes and studied under world-class photographers, including Stephen Wilkes, Steve McCurry, Jay Maisel, and Mary Ellen Mark.

Doug has used the sale of his images to raise funds for relief efforts worldwide. He helped the survivors of the 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka and 2008 Cyclone Nargis in Burma and donated funds to support Sri Lanka’s rebuilding after its thirty-year civil war.

Doug has over 26,000 Followers on Instagram and can be viewed at @dougadamsphotography and his new, state-of-the-art website at www.dougadamsphotography.com.
